4DO 1.2.0.1 Released!

fourdo-admin April 06, 2012 6 Comments

Japanese game players rejoice!

Improvements:

  1. Bios 2 Support Added. Viktor determined how to added support for the second bios slot, used in Japanese hardware for the Kanji font. This should enable support for several Japanese games that require it (one example being Blue Forest Monogatari). Awesome!
  2. Daedalus Encounter timing fix added. This should alleviate many of the freezes encountered.
  3. Screenshot Feature added. Press F3 to take screenshots to a “Screenshots” subfolder.
  4. Russian translation fixes and improvements from both Viktor and Sedabi.

Hey there Johnny, congratulations on coming out of Beta! Awesome news – and your emu is really quite a pleasure to use these days.

Question, now that you’ve passed this milestone is there a chance either you or Viktor would consider contributing to the MESS 3DO driver? They could really use the help and it would be extremely important work for the long term.

Either way, thanks to both of you for your efforts!

I am available to provide information for the foreseeable future!

I don’t know a lot about the MESS project, but I admire their goals. I am unsure if they have anybody working on the coding for the 3DO portion. I am not likely to work on MESS coding myself; I would more likely put effort into 4DO first. Even so, I’d be happy to help someone understand the porting effort.

You will just need a dump from the second bios chip in a (J) console. I guess there is a dump that works in FreeDO and I believe has a file name of rom2.rom. This should work in 4DO too.

I tried pulling the font from some (J) discs and I have had no luck with using that, so I can’t give a method for going that route.
